Electranoid is a shareware game released for the PC in 1995. The game is similar to popular arcade games such as Pong and Arkanoid as it involves using a paddle to bounce a ball back and forth on the screen to destroy blocks or obstacles.
For a shareware game Electranoid is very polished, offering beautiful colourful graphics with lovely animated sequences. While it’s nothing original, it does what it does extremely well. The typical power ups such as “sticky paddle”, “three ball split”, “increase paddle size”, etc. are all present but you also have a powerup to allow your paddle to shoot rockets or bullets which quickly lets you decimate enemies and blocks.
It’s also important to note that the most recent Arkanoid game for DOS (Revenge of DOH) was 6 years old by the time Electranoid was released and it only offered EGA graphics (not to mention quite tedious sounds) so Electranoid was a very welcome addition for DOS.
- Electranoid is a relatively faithful copy of Arkanoid featuring similar graphics & power-ups
- This game was made in Turbo Pascal which means it needs a patch to run on faster machines.
