Welcome to our brand new website, ABANDONED TIMES, from the creators & staff of the original Abandonia, the Internet’s most popular abandonware website.
Why create a new site?
Even today Abandonia draws many thousands of visitors a day. Frequent visitors will have noted however that the site has been … ironically … abandoned. Ads have been plastered everywhere, “news” items consist of unrelated plugs for commercial content, pop-ups appear every time you click, … . The sad part is that we can do nothing about this.
Abandonia has been around for almost a whopping 25 years and many years ago the original creator & owner of Abandonia sold the rights away to a company. The staff was allowed full control of the site, but this company had the freedom to place any ads they wished on the site to gain ad revenue. Sadly enough over the years, they ramped up the use of ads while preventing the staff from expanding or improving the site. Frustrated most of us moved on …
So why another abandonware site? Aren’t there enough of those?
Of course, and this is why it’s taken us so long to start this new site. We felt projects such as eXoDOS, archive.org and all the other abandonware sites made access to old MS DOS games easier than ever.
That is why ABANDONED TIMES is NOT ‘just’ an abandonware site.
If you wanted to download a game, you visited a site like Abandonia. If you wanted game info, you went to MobyGames, if you wished to find patches you visited Patches Scrolls, etc. etc. but not a single website combines all the data in one place! This is why our intention is to go for quality over quantity. Here’s what we currently intend to offer or link to:
GAMES | APPS | HARDWARE |
• screenshots & misc game art | • reviews | • reviews |
• audio & video | • screenshots | • tutorials & repair guides |
• play game in browser (yes!) | • comparisons | • screenshots |
• reviews & wiki-style info | • tutorials | • buy guides & tips |
• downloads, patches & fixes | • downloads | • tear downs |
• remakes & remasters | ||
• cheats, tips & walkthroughs |
The content we cannot host we will provide a link for but the core idea is to be a one-stop-shop for all abandonware needs. It will take a while to build up all the content (Rome wasn’t built in a day after all) but with your help, we will get there.
When the site is officially opened (once the foundations have been fully built) we will welcome anyone wishing to help contribute.
