Three weeks ago we decided to resurrect the Abandonia we all love and remember. As if fate was waiting for us to make this move, Abandonia was struck by hackers and has since been taken down. While Abovo (those who “own” Abandonia) promise it will be back up, we all fear the worst. We’ve asked, even begged them to update the code to make it more secure (both the site & the forums) but both haven’t been updated in many MANY years.
But enough about Abandonia. The past few weeks we haven’t been idle. We’ve added more games but also added a great deal more functionality to the site:
- You can now read manuals on the site itself, no need to download them! The PDF viewer is very user friendly and a joy to use.
- We’ve tried many different layouts for the Game Info screen and decided to add tabbed boxes. This allows for much more information to be stored on the same page without having extremely long pages to scroll through.
- Videos now play in a lightbox making them much more enjoyable to watch.
- We also found a way to host our own MS DOS games to play inside your browser! This opens the door to hosting unique demos, beta versions as well as hosting full games that are otherwise not available to play online.
Soon we’ll be ready for the official launch of the website and we’ll start advertising the site on multiple platforms & channels. Anyone who is willing to contribute can leave a comment below.
